Creative And Easy Ideas For Upcycling Old Furniture

Old furniture can be damaged or outlive its use. That doesn’t mean that it can’t become something else entirely. Don’t waste that precious material! Use your old furniture to create new furniture. Often, it just takes a little time and imagination to make this happen. Need something for the bedroom? Pick through the furniture in the storage shed for inspiration. Paint and décor go a long way to giving your project life, so don’t be discouraged by the texture or color of the finish. With that said, let’s discuss the easy-to-do ideas that will fulfill your needs.

Drawers To Side Tables

It’s important to know the difference between core and prerequisite classes. Core education classes are the “basic” classes that most students will have to take, regardless of their chosen degree. You concentrate on taking these courses during the first two years of college. This way, they’re out of the way by the time you choose a degree and when you want to concentrate on learning about it. Plus, it’s never fun to have to refresh your memory if you wait a few years to take these basic courses. High school will be a distant memory by the time you’re two or three years into your extended education.

Wardrobe To Reading Nook

If you have a large wardrobe that is wasting away in storage, then bring it out and make it into a reading nook. Remove any shelves and obstructions, add some cushions, and keep the drawer at the bottom if you have one. You can store the books in the drawer and sit comfortably in your new reading nook. Is it for your child? Keep some shelves above the seating area for extra book and toy storage. They will love their little hiding place!

Hutch To Tea-Time

If your indoor hutch isn’t serving much of a purpose, then give it one. Clear out a few of the shelves and cupboards. Turn it into a tea-serving station. Keep your precious teapots and array of tea flavors there. Have a serving tray at the ready, so you can bring it from the hutch to the living area with ease. Don’t forget to decorate. Paint tea-like phrases such as “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me” by C.S. Lewis.

Drawer To Chair

A thick double drawer set makes for a great child’s chair. Remove the top and first drawer, add a cushion, and you are set! Don’t forget to use that spare drawer for something else. Keep toys, movies, and books in the storage beneath the seat. Don’t have kids? Use it for your pet. Every cat loves a soft place to sleep. You can even keep their toys and catnip in the drawer below, so they keep coming back.

Crib To Desk

Desks are expensive, so why spend money on them if you don’t have to? If your child has grown out of their crib or you see one at the second-hand store, grab it and make it your own. Remove one wall and the mattress. You have a desk at your disposal. Paint it and hang trinkets from the cage-like frame. Use it for crafting, art, or for your computer. The tall walls will keep pets and children from disturbing your belongings, too.

Shelves To Pet Beds

Have excess shelves? So long as they’re stable, you can turn the frame on its side. They make great pet beds for dogs and cats. Add their favorite blanket, pillows, and toys. Place it under a tent-like fabric, so they have privacy. Have an adventurous cat? Keep the shelf upright, and give them a ladder to climb up to the top. You can even mount the individual shelves to the wall and ditch the frame.

Crate To Ottoman

Do you have shipping crates laying around? Wine crates? Use them for storage! Paint it and slap a cushion over the top. Guess what you have? The perfect ottoman. You can store extra blankets or gaming systems in the ottoman while you’re not using them. The cushion will allow you to put your feet up during movie night. Affordable and trendy!

Paint Everything

No matter the type of furniture you have, it can always be better. If you’re not looking to replace any of your items, but don’t like your current set, then paint them. Color, texture, design, and décor make a huge difference. Just make sure you do it right, so it lasts as long as you’ll use it. Sand those shelves down and brush paint it. Plan on changing the colors often? Use spray paint. The options are endless when it comes to creative DIY projects.
